This Privacy Policy describes how the mobile game LetterLadder: Word Climb (“the App”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) handles information in connection with your use of the App. LetterLadder is developed and published by Earl Duque (“the Developer”).

LetterLadder is built to need as little about you as possible. It does not ask for your name, email address, or password, and it has no sign‑up or login. It does, however, keep online leaderboards, which means some gameplay information — including a display name you choose — is sent to our backend and shown to other players. This policy explains exactly what that involves.

1. Information We Do Not Collect

LetterLadder does not collect, store, or transmit any of the following:

Your real name, email address, phone number, or mailing address
Account credentials or passwords (the App has no sign‑up and no login)
Contacts, photos, camera, microphone, or location data
Health, financial, or browsing‑history data
Analytics or crash‑reporting data — the App contains no analytics or crash‑reporting software of any kind

The App requests no operating‑system permissions.

2. Your Anonymous Profile

The first time you play, the App creates an anonymous profile for you on our backend. This happens automatically and in the background. It is not an account in the usual sense: it has no email address, no password, and no way to sign in from another device. It is simply a random identifier (a UUID) so that your runs can be attributed to a consistent player on the leaderboards.

The credentials for that anonymous profile are stored in your device’s secure Keychain. We cannot connect it to your identity, your Apple Account, or any other app.

3. Information We Do Collect

The following is sent to our backend and associated with your anonymous profile:

Display name and tag — a name you choose in Settings (default: Owl) plus a random 4‑digit tag, for example Owl#3238. This is the only free‑text field in the App, and it is publicly visible on the leaderboards. Please do not put personal information in it.
Gameplay data — completed runs, including the game mode, the puzzle date, the start word, the ladder of words you played, your score, the length of your ladder, and whether the run was revived by watching a rewarded ad.
Progress data — your Lexeme balance, prestige level, purchased upgrades, tallest ladder, and highest score.

We use this information for exactly one purpose: to run the game and its leaderboards (including verifying scores so the leaderboards aren’t easily cheated). We do not use it for advertising, we do not build profiles about you, and we do not sell, rent, or share it with anyone.

If you are offline, completed runs are held on your device and sent the next time the App can reach the backend.

4. Data Stored Locally on Your Device

The App also keeps a copy of your profile, progress, seen words, personal bests, completed dailies, and settings (theme, sound, haptics) in a file inside its own storage on your device. Deleting the App removes this local data.

5. Where Your Data Is Stored

Our backend is hosted by Supabase, Inc., which provides the database and anonymous‑authentication services on our behalf. Data is transmitted over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Like any internet service, Supabase’s infrastructure processes technical connection information such as your IP address in order to deliver the request and protect the service against abuse; the App itself does not send us your IP address, device identifiers, or advertising identifiers.

6. Advertising

LetterLadder shows advertisements provided by Google AdMob, a service operated by Google LLC. Ads are what keep the game free.

The only ads in the App are optional rewarded videos. You are never forced to watch one: after a run ends, you may choose to watch a short video in exchange for a revive. There are no banner ads, interstitials, or app‑open ads. Declining costs you nothing but the revive.
LetterLadder does not use Apple’s App Tracking Transparency framework and does not ask for permission to track you. It does not access your device’s advertising identifier (IDFA), and it does not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the App presents a Google‑provided consent message before requesting ads, and Google serves ads according to the choices you make there. You can change those choices later from within the App where offered.
To serve ads and to limit ad frequency and fraud, Google may process limited technical information such as coarse (non‑precise) location, general device information, and ad interaction data. This processing is governed by Google’s own policies, not ours. We never receive it.

You can also limit ad personalization at the operating‑system level on iOS via Settings → Privacy & Security → Apple Advertising, and manage tracking permissions via Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.

7. In‑App Purchases

There are none. LetterLadder contains no in‑app purchases and does not accept real money. Lexemes, the in‑game currency, are earned by playing and cannot be bought. The Developer never receives payment information of any kind.

8. Children’s Privacy

LetterLadder is a word game with no objectionable content, but it is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The App has no sign‑up and asks for no personal information. If you believe a child has entered personal information into the display‑name field, contact us and we will remove it promptly.

9. Your Rights and Choices

Because your profile is anonymous, we hold no information that identifies you. You can still:

Delete your local data by deleting the App from your device.
Request deletion of your leaderboard data — your display name, scores, and run history — by emailing us with your name and tag (for example Owl#3238), which you can find in Settings. Please send this request before deleting the App: your tag is the only way we can locate your data. We will confirm once it is deleted.
Change your display name at any time in Settings.
Decline every ad. Rewarded ads are always optional.
Reset or limit your device’s advertising identifier using the iOS settings described in Section 6.

Depending on where you live (for example, the EEA/UK under the GDPR, or California under the CCPA/CPRA), you may have additional rights to access, correct, port, or delete personal data, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA/CPRA. Rights relating to data processed by Google as an advertising provider can be exercised through Google using the links in Section 6.

10. Data Retention

Leaderboard and run data associated with your anonymous profile is kept for as long as the game’s leaderboards operate, or until you ask us to delete it. If the App is discontinued, the backend data is deleted.
